The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) introduced the Qi2 wireless charging standard at CES 2023, but adoption has been slow. Apple leads with Qi2 support on iPhone 12 and newer models, while HMD Global released the only Qi2-compatible Android phone last year.
WPC now confirms Qi2 adoption will rise in 2025, with Samsung adding support to Galaxy devices this year, likely starting with the Galaxy S25 series. Google also hinted at Qi2 support for upcoming Pixel phones and its work on the Qi 2.2 standard for high-power wireless charging. Details on features like built-in magnets remain unclear, with “Qi2 Ready” certification ensuring compatibility with cases and accessories.
