The HMD OffGrid, announced at CES 2025, adds satellite connectivity to any phone, enabling messaging, GPS and emergency SOS services without relying on terrestrial networks. Compact and lightweight (93.88 x 60.16 x 12mm, 60g), it connects wirelessly to your phone and works for up to three days on a single charge. It’s ideal for adventurers like hikers and boaters.
Priced at $199, the OffGrid requires a subscription:
- Unlimited Plan: $14.99/month or $139.99/year for unlimited messages and SOS, with optional live tracking for $4.99/month.
- Freedom Plan: $79.99/year for up to 350 messages, with the same live tracking option.
Competing options, like Garmin’s inReach Mini 2, offer navigation but at a higher cost. The OffGrid launches this month in the U.S., Europe, Australia and New Zealand, with more regions to follow in 2025.
