Anthropic cleared to release Claude Mythos 5

Anthropic has secured a partial win after the U.S. government eased export restrictions that had blocked access to its Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 AI models. The company can now provide Claude Mythos 5 to more than 100 approved U.S. institutions, including major corporations and government agencies.

The restrictions were reportedly linked to concerns about model security and potential access by China. According to reports, Anthropic and government officials have spent the past two weeks negotiating safeguards that led to the partial lifting of the ban.

There is still no timeline for the wider return of Claude Fable 5, but Anthropic says it is continuing discussions with the government to expand access to Mythos 5 and restore Fable 5 for general use. The development comes shortly after OpenAI began a limited rollout of its new GPT-5.6 models to a select group of approved partners.
