The UAE has announced new social media restrictions that effectively ban children under 15 from using social media platforms, making it the first Arab country to introduce such rules.
Users aged 15 and 16 will still be allowed access, but with parental controls, screen-time limits and restrictions on interactions with strangers. Social media companies will be required to implement strict age-verification systems, including digital ID checks and AI-based tools, while existing accounts belonging to children under 15 must be disabled. Platforms have one year to comply with the new regulations.
