Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the company and several former Apple employees of stealing confidential information related to unreleased products, technologies and manufacturing processes. Apple claims the stolen trade secrets were used to benefit OpenAI’s growing hardware division.
The lawsuit specifically names former Apple executives Tang Tan and Chang Liu, alleging they improperly obtained and shared sensitive Apple information while recruiting employees for OpenAI. Apple also claims OpenAI encouraged candidates to discuss confidential projects and bring proprietary materials to interviews.
Apple says more than 400 former employees now work at OpenAI and describes the alleged misconduct as only “the tip of the iceberg.” The company is seeking damages and court orders to stop any further use of its trade secrets. OpenAI has not yet publicly responded to the lawsuit.
