Apple claims “shocking evidence” in OpenAI trade secrets lawsuit

Apple says an initial forensic examination of a former engineer’s MacBook uncovered new evidence supporting its trade secret lawsuit against OpenAI.

According to Apple, former engineer Chang Liu allegedly downloaded a confidential circuit schematic, used it in his work at OpenAI, and was aware of unauthorized access to Apple’s cloud storage. Apple also claims Liu instructed an OpenAI colleague to destroy evidence after learning about the company’s investigation.

Apple says the findings strengthen its request for expedited discovery, arguing that its trade secrets may have been used to train or operate AI systems in ways that could be difficult to reverse. OpenAI has previously sought to have the lawsuit dismissed.
