A survivor of the devastating Tibet-Nepal floods says satellite connectivity on his HUAWEI Mate X5 helped him contact rescuers after conventional mobile networks went down.
According to his account, he used the satellite connection to reach a helicopter and was subsequently evacuated to safety. The incident highlights the potentially life-saving role of satellite communication when disasters knock out traditional networks.
Apple, Google and Samsung have also introduced satellite features on their latest smartphones, giving users a way to seek help in remote areas or during emergencies when cellular service is unavailable.
