Apple has developed a flexible graphite pipe built into the iPhone Duo’s hinge to transfer heat between both halves of the foldable phone. The design helps address overheating challenges when the device is folded.
Combined with a vapor chamber and a redesigned A20 Pro chip layout, the cooling system aims to maintain peak performance for longer during demanding tasks such as gaming. The graphite pipe is also designed to withstand thousands of hinge movements.
Unlike most Android foldables, which use graphite sheets around the display or chassis, Apple uses the hinge itself as part of the cooling system. If effective in real-world use, the approach could inspire Android manufacturers to adopt similar solutions.
