Google is introducing stricter sideloading rules on Android, initially in Brazil, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. Devices running Android 7 or later will require users to enable sideloading in Developer Options, authenticate, restart the phone and wait 24 hours before installing apps from unregistered developers.
The change is designed to make it harder for scammers to persuade users to install malicious apps. However, some Android users are concerned that the move could push the platform toward a more closed, iOS-like ecosystem.
The new process is expected to expand to additional markets in the future.
