Samsung plans to cut smartphone production by millions

Samsung is reportedly asking suppliers to cut smartphone production by 20–30% in the fourth quarter as rising memory and semiconductor costs squeeze profits.

The company was expected to produce up to 270 million smartphones this year, but the additional cuts could push annual production into the low 200-million range.

The price of 12GB of LPDDR5X memory has reportedly risen 175% year over year to around $145–$146, with prices potentially reaching $180. Samsung has not officially confirmed the reported production cuts.
