Tim Cook’s prediction about iPhone sales growth in China has come true. According to a report from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), shipments of foreign-branded smartphones, primarily iPhones, increased by 52% in April. This is a significant rebound from the 37% drop in the first two months of 2024. Apple’s sales boost is attributed to major discounts of up to CNY 2,300 ($320) on select models, which are expected to continue driving sales in May. Despite a weaker start for the iPhone 15 series compared to the 14 series, the upcoming iPhone 16 series is anticipated to bring further improvements. In April, 3.495 million foreign-branded smartphones were sold in China, part of a total of 22.7 million smartphones, marking a 25.5% year-over-year increase.
