Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled that social platform X (formerly Twitter) must pay $5 million in pending fines before resuming its service in the country. This includes a new $1.8 million fine for briefly becoming accessible last week. X has been suspended in Brazil since August for not complying with orders to limit hate speech. While X has now fulfilled some requirements, the platform’s legal representative and Musk-owned Starlink must settle fines before the ban is lifted. X is expected to pay but may challenge the new fine.
