Scammers are using AI to create more sophisticated Gmail takeover scams, spoofing Google phone numbers and email addresses. IT consultant Sam Mitrovic reported being targeted, receiving a fake Gmail recovery request followed by calls from a spoofed Google number. The scammer, using an AI voice, sent a convincing email from a fake address resembling a Google domain.
Mitrovic didn’t fall for it, but others have reported similar incidents. Users are advised to be cautious of such calls and emails and secure their accounts by changing passwords, enabling two-factor authentication and avoiding suspicious links.
