As of May 5, 2025, Skype has officially shut down, marking the end of an era in internet communication. Microsoft is transitioning users to Teams Free, which retains Skype contacts and chat history. While Teams offers many modern features, it won’t support landline or mobile calling like Skype did. Once Skype Credits or subscriptions run out, those services will end too. Though outdated today, Skype was once revolutionary – connecting millions globally and paving the way for modern video calling platforms.
