A California jury has ordered Google to pay $314.6 million to roughly 14 million Android users in the state for misusing their data. The class-action lawsuit claimed Google collected user data from idle Android phones without permission, using it for targeted ads and consuming users’ mobile data. Google plans to appeal, arguing users consented via its privacy policies and no harm was done. A similar lawsuit involving the other 49 U.S. states is set for trial in April 2026.
