AMD has signed a five-year partnership with OpenAI to supply up to 6 gigawatts of AI processors for new data centers, directly challenging Nvidia’s dominance. The deal begins with a 1GW deployment of AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs in late 2026 and could generate tens of billions in revenue for AMD. In return, OpenAI may receive up to 160 million AMD shares if certain milestones are met. The move follows OpenAI’s recent agreement with Nvidia for 10GW of GPU infrastructure and signals its shift toward a more diversified compute strategy beyond Microsoft.
