Marques Brownlee’s Panels wallpaper app is shutting down on December 31, just a year after launch. Brownlee says the team “made mistakes” and couldn’t deliver the app he envisioned. Panels faced heavy criticism at launch for its high subscription pricing and ad model, and later changes in the development team failed to get the project back on track.
The app will be removed from stores, all subscriptions will be canceled and refunded, and all user data will be deleted. Brownlee plans to open-source the Panels code on GitHub after shutdown.
