Appfigures reports that global app downloads fell 2.7% in 2025 to 106.9 billion, marking the fifth consecutive year of decline, even as consumer spending hit a record high. Estimated app revenue surged 21.6% year over year to $155.8 billion, driven largely by subscriptions.
The slowdown was led by mobile games, with downloads down 8.6%, while non-game apps saw modest growth and dominated spending, reaching $82.6 billion. In the U.S., spending rose 18.1% despite falling downloads, highlighting a continued shift toward fewer installs but higher monetization per user.
