Spotify is testing a new feature called Page Match that lets users seamlessly switch between a physical book, ebook and its audiobook. Using the phone’s camera and OCR, Spotify can scan a page in a book and jump to the exact matching point in the audiobook. The feature also works in reverse, showing which book page corresponds to your current audiobook position.
Page Match will require users to own or unlock the audiobook on Spotify and is expected to be available only in markets where Spotify already offers audiobooks. If released, it would go beyond Amazon’s Whispersync by supporting physical books, making it especially useful for readers, audiobook listeners and book clubs.
