A worker at Best Buy has been charged with fraud after allegedly using a manager’s override code to apply massive discounts – up to 99% – on MacBook Pro models and other electronics.
Authorities say the scheme ran for months and led to over $118,000 in losses, including dozens of discounted purchases for himself and others. Investigators tracked some of the stolen items to pawn shops, where several MacBook Pros were recovered.
The case highlights a growing problem of employee theft in retail, which companies say is harder to detect due to high staff turnover.
