According to Wired, Apple is blocking users in the United States from downloading or updating several apps owned by ByteDance, even if they use a valid Chinese App Store account.
The restriction affects apps such as CapCut, Lemon8, Lark and Hypic. When users in the US attempt to download them, they reportedly see a message saying the app is unavailable in their region.
The change appears to be linked to the restructuring of TikTok in the US after the creation of the TikTok USDS joint venture. An earlier Apple support document reportedly stated that several ByteDance apps would no longer be available in the United States starting January 19, 2025, although users who already installed them could continue using them but would not be able to re-download them if removed.
