Google is developing smart glasses based on its Android XR platform and recently showcased a prototype at Mobile World Congress 2026. The demo glasses feature a single display and are powered by the latest Gemini models.
In a video demo, Google’s Dieter Bohn showed features such as live translation, video calls and visual search. By simply looking at a poster of a stadium, the glasses were able to provide walking directions in the user’s field of view. The AI could also identify an album cover and play its music through YouTube Music.
The demo also included AI image editing, where the glasses captured a photo and reimagined it with the group standing in front of La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Google notes that the device is still a prototype and the final consumer version will likely look different.
