Android will soon getting its own ‘tap to share files’ feature

Quick Share may be getting a major upgrade that brings it closer to Apple AirDrop. New findings across Samsung One UI builds and Android suggest a “Tap to share” feature, letting users transfer files by simply holding devices close together using NFC.

Originally spotted as a Samsung experiment, the feature now appears to be evolving into an Android-wide system powered partly by Google Play Services. References to “Gesture Exchange” and a system-level “TapToShare” service indicate NFC would trigger the connection, while Quick Share handles the transfer.

If confirmed, this could mean a seamless, cross-brand AirDrop-like experience for Android users, possibly launching with Android 17.
