Google Translate is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a new pronunciation practice feature on Android. Users can now tap “Practice” and speak translations aloud, with AI providing instant feedback.
The feature, powered by Google Gemini, is currently available in the US and India for English, Spanish and Hindi.
Google also highlighted Translate’s evolution – from early statistical models in 2006 to neural networks in 2016 and today’s AI-powered real-time conversations. The service now supports around 1 billion users monthly, translating over 1 trillion words across its platforms.
