Google Images turns 25

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Google Images, Google is rolling out a redesigned homepage that works more like Pinterest. The new experience will show personalized image recommendations, update in real time and let users save images into collections for inspiration and planning.

Google is also adding AI image generation powered by Nano Banana 2, allowing users to create images directly from text prompts in Search. The update will first launch on desktop in US English, with image generation expanding to supported regions soon.

The company also highlighted the evolution of Google Images, from basic image search in 2001 to features like Search by Image, Google Lens and Circle to Search, which is now available on more than 580 million Android devices.
