According to a new Bloomberg report, OpenAI is developing its first hardware product: a screenless AI smart speaker designed to bring ChatGPT into the home. The portable device is expected to include a camera and sensors, allowing it to understand its surroundings, control smart-home devices, play media, answer questions and assist with daily tasks.
The speaker will reportedly become more personalized over time by learning from user data, such as emails and proactively offering helpful information. Voice interactions are expected to be powered by GPT-Live, OpenAI’s latest conversational AI technology.
OpenAI is said to be targeting an announcement later this year, with a launch planned for 2027. The company is also reportedly working on several other hardware products, including wearables, home robots and a potential smartphone alternative.
