Apple has officially started rolling out ads in Apple Maps in the US and Canada, with the rollout expected to expand to all users over the coming weeks.
Ads can appear both before a search, among suggested places, and after a search when relevant businesses match the query. They look similar to regular listings but include a small blue “Ad” label.
Apple says its Maps advertising system is designed with privacy in mind. Location data and ad interactions are not linked to a user’s Apple Account, while personal data remains on the device and is not shared with third parties.
Businesses can now also book ads through Apple’s advertising platform.
