Xiaomi has revealed a new Smart Privacy Display for the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro series. The pixel-level technology uses alternating standard and privacy pixels with built-in physical baffles. When privacy mode is enabled, brightness at viewing angles beyond 60 degrees drops to around 1%, making the screen difficult for people nearby to see.
Unlike Diamond or Pentile displays, Xiaomi uses a full RGB subpixel layout with around 9.5 million subpixels, aiming to maintain normal display quality while providing privacy protection. The display also offers up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness.
Privacy mode can be activated through Quick Settings, the AI key, voice commands, specific apps or pages, location-based rules, or even automatic shoulder-surfing detection using the front camera.
