Social experience scans street music

Developer Riley Walz created “Bop Spotter,” a unique project in San Francisco’s Mission District using an old Android phone, Shazam, and a solar panel. The setup listens to music from passing cars, boomboxes, and street performers to capture the area’s musical vibe.

It runs 24/7, streaming detected songs to Walz’s website, where users can see what’s playing and access Spotify and Apple Music links. Inspired by ShotSpotter’s gunfire detection tech, Bop Spotter instead focuses on “catching vibes” and showcasing the community’s music tastes.
