New U.S. sales data shows the iPhone 16 Pro is underperforming compared to last year’s 15 Pro. While the 16 Pro Max held steady, the 16 Pro dropped to 17% of sales, down from 22%. Meanwhile, the base iPhone 16 saw a jump to 20% of sales, up from 14% for the 15. The cheaper model’s appeal appears to be pulling potential buyers away from the Pro. Apple’s strategy to upgrade the base model to differentiate it from the new budget iPhone 16e seems to be working—at the cost of some Pro sales.
