After nearly a year of teasers, Samsung has officially launched its new XR headset — the Galaxy XR, developed in partnership with Google and Qualcomm. Priced at $1,799, the device blends high-end hardware with Google’s new Android XR platform and deep Gemini AI integration.
The headset features dual 4K displays with automatic eye-tracking, hand- and voice-based controls (no controllers required), and an external battery for lighter weight and 2-hour use. It supports Steam VR, Google Play games and Gemini Live, allowing users to interact with apps and content naturally using sight, speech and gestures.
While the experience is impressive — offering immersive Google Photos, Maps and YouTube demos — the Galaxy XR still feels like a transitional product. Samsung appears to be setting the stage for future smart glasses powered by Android XR rather than expecting mass adoption of this headset.
In short, Galaxy XR is less about instant sales and more about building the foundation for a new ecosystem — one where AI and AR converge into everyday wearables.
