OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Atlas, a new AI-driven web browser designed to compete directly with Google Chrome. Available now on macOS (with Windows, iOS, and Android coming soon), Atlas integrates ChatGPT directly into browsing, offering real-time assistance, summarization, and automation.
A key feature is “agent mode,” exclusive to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, allowing the AI to take actions like booking flights, editing documents, or managing emails. The browser also includes memory, letting it personalize experiences over time, and a split-screen view that keeps ChatGPT visible alongside webpages.
With former Chrome and Firefox engineers on the team, Atlas aims to blend speed, simplicity, and AI utility, marking OpenAI’s boldest move yet in the AI browser wars against Google’s Gemini-powered Chrome and Perplexity’s Comet browser.
