Google and Epic propose settlement to end Play Store battle

Google and Epic Games may soon end their years-long Play Store legal battle. The two companies have jointly filed a proposed settlement that could reshape how Android and Google Play work in the US.

The agreement focuses on expanding developer choice, lowering fees and enabling alternative app stores and payment methods — both in-app and via web links. Google’s Play Store fees would be capped at 9–20%, depending on the transaction type.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney called the proposal a “comprehensive solution” that supports Android’s open-platform vision and contrasts with Apple’s closed ecosystem.

If approved by US District Judge James Donato, this deal would conclude Epic’s 2020 lawsuit against Google and mark one of the biggest antitrust settlements in the mobile industry.
