xAI used employee biometric data to train Elon Musk’s AI girlfriend

According to The Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk’s AI firm xAI required employees to submit their biometric data – including faces and voices – to train its “Ani” chatbot, an anime-style female avatar with NSFW features available through X’s $30/month SuperGrok service.

Staff acting as AI tutors had to sign release forms granting xAI broad rights to use and distribute their likeness under a confidential initiative called Project Skippy. Some employees objected, citing privacy and deepfake concerns, but were reportedly told participation was mandatory to support xAI’s mission.
