Bloomberg reports that Apple is finalizing a deal to pay Google about $1 billion per year to use its Gemini AI for the revamped Siri, launching next spring. The custom Gemini model powering Siri will have 1.2 trillion parameters, vastly larger than Apple’s current 150 billion-parameter cloud model.
Under the deal, Gemini will handle Siri’s summarizer and planner functions, while other tasks will still use Apple’s own AI. The system will run entirely on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers, ensuring that no user data is shared with Google.
Apple still plans to develop its own 1 trillion-parameter AI model to eventually replace Gemini, continuing its long-term push for in-house AI independence.
