Apple is reportedly exploring a future “Spatial iPhone” with a glasses-free 3D display, possibly using technology developed by Samsung Electronics. According to recent rumors, Samsung is working on an advanced holographic AMOLED panel with eye tracking that can create a 3D effect without requiring special glasses.
Unlike older 3D displays such as the Nintendo 3DS, the new technology would reportedly maintain the 3D effect even when the phone moves relative to the viewer. Samsung has previously researched holographic display technology, making the rumor appear plausible.
The technology is still said to be in early development, with consumer-ready devices potentially arriving by 2030. However, past consumer interest in 3D products like TVs and handheld consoles has been mixed, raising questions about whether users would embrace 3D smartphones.
