Google is shifting Pixel intelligence from the cloud to the device

Google is expanding its on-device AI strategy for Pixel phones with Gemma 4 E2B for TPU, a lightweight AI model optimized to run directly on Pixel hardware. By processing AI tasks locally, apps can work faster, maintain better privacy and continue functioning without an internet connection.

Google demonstrated the technology on the upcoming Pixel 10, showing offline AI features such as trip planning, recipe suggestions, smart-home controls, voice commands, image recognition and on-device transcription. The company says these capabilities will be especially useful when traveling or in areas with poor connectivity.

Google also highlighted potential business uses, including offline retail navigation and AI-powered vehicle diagnostics using photos captured on a Pixel device.
