Apple will face a $32.5 billion lawsuit over Photos app face recognition

Apple is facing a class-action lawsuit in Illinois over claims that its Photos “People” feature violated the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) by collecting facial recognition data without proper consent.

The case has been approved to move forward and could involve around 6.5 million users, with potential damages reaching $32.5 billion if Apple is found liable.
