Demand for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 is reportedly exceeding expectations, creating a shortage of the Display Driver IC (DDI) chips needed for its OLED display.
Samsung has increased component orders, but its supplier UMC reportedly has little capacity to boost production. As a result, Samsung is considering using DDI reserves originally intended for future devices to maintain current Fold 8 production.
The company is also increasing orders for hinges and ultra-thin glass, further indicating strong demand. Meanwhile, Galaxy Z Flip 8 sales are reportedly below expectations.
