Global smartphone shipments drop 20% in Q3 2026

Global smartphone shipments fell 20% year-on-year to 254.7 million units in Q3 2026, reaching their lowest third-quarter level since 2013, according to Omdia. Rising device prices, component shortages and weaker consumer demand contributed to the decline.

Samsung remained the world’s largest smartphone vendor with 57.8 million units shipped (-5%), followed closely by Apple with 56.5 million (+0%). Xiaomi ranked third with 30.7 million (-29%), while OPPO and vivo recorded declines of 39% and 33%, respectively.

Emerging markets faced the greatest pressure, with Africa experiencing a 39% decline. Omdia expects global smartphone shipments to fall by 12% in 2026, with further declines likely in 2027 as high component costs continue to affect the market.
