Rumors about Apple’s ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air are intensifying. Reports suggest the device, measuring 5-6mm thick, faces design challenges like fitting a SIM card tray and battery. While eSIMs solve the issue in the U.S., they’re not yet approved in China, a key market. The thin design also poses thermal and battery challenges.
To achieve its slim form, Apple may switch to an aluminum and glass build, reduce to a single speaker in the earpiece and use its in-house 5G modem, which is smaller but less reliable than Qualcomm’s. The iPhone 17 Air, possibly replacing the iPhone 17 Plus, is expected to launch next year.
