Apple has criticized proposed EU rules that would require Google to open more of Android to rival AI services under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The European Commission wants third-party AI assistants to gain deeper access to Android apps and features, allowing them to perform tasks like sending emails or ordering food.
In its filing, Apple warned the measures could create major privacy, security and safety risks, especially as AI systems continue evolving rapidly. The company also argued that the EU is attempting to redesign Android too quickly, potentially overriding years of engineering decisions made by Google. The European Commission is expected to make a final decision on the matter in July.
