Google Android XR glasses using floating 3D navigation markers

Google has showcased a new Android XR demo that turns XR glasses into a personal tour guide. Using Android XR, Google Maps, Gemini and the Visual Positioning System, the headset can display floating navigation arrows and points of interest directly in a user’s view while Gemini provides spoken information about nearby landmarks.

The proof-of-concept experience suggests themed walking tours, such as historical, food and nature routes, allowing users to explore cities without constantly checking a phone. The demo runs on the XREAL Aura XR glasses, which feature a transparent display capable of showing mixed-reality content. While not yet a consumer-ready feature, it offers one of the clearest examples of how Android XR could enhance everyday navigation and exploration.
